Canine Training Doesn’t Have To Be A Chore

The trainer learns just as much as his or her dog when teaching. That is true because, in order for an owner to succeed in training your dog, they must learn certain things on their own accord. People are not born knowing how to train a dog and need to first learn if they really desire to do so. There is some solid advice in this article about how to do that.

Unless you offer a distraction or stimulus, your dog will probably focus exclusively on a single thing. If you are consistent and use repetition, your dog will start to wait for your signals before focusing on something.

Make sure you aren’t enforcing bad behavior without meaning to. In basic terms, this means refusing to reward your dog, via attention or treats, for doing any action that you are trying to get them to stop doing. For instance, do not rub its head when it comes and jumps at you when you get home when you do not want your dog to do this.

When starting to train a dog, make verbal cues that let the animal know the exact time when they correctly carry out a command. Using a positive word such as “yes” will fill the time between the performance of the desired behavior and the delivery of the reward.

Do not use shock collars and similar training devices. They are often scams and, in any case, are completely unnecessary to proper training your dog. Also, shock collars and like devices are just not nice things to use. It is common for these tactics to create adverse behavior.

When you approach a strange dog, make sure you approach him slowly and allow the dog to sniff your hand. Extending your hand lets the animal familiarize himself with your unique scent, making him more receptive to a friendly interaction. When the dog becomes familiar with your smell, he will not fear you and will respond to your commands easier.

Now that the people who are interested in training their new pet dog have, hopefully, learned some new tricks, they can proceed to pass them along to their pets. Once a dog is on its way to learning, the owner will begin to appreciate the dedication that he or she has shown for doing the right thing for man’s best friend.
